Our journey from Seoul to Busan started with quite a whirlwind! The day began with a close call at Seoul Station, where we nearly missed the bullet train despite having arrived two hours early. We were leisurely soaking in the ambiance, completely unaware of how quickly time was slipping away. Suddenly, with a shock, we realized the train was set to depart in just five minutes.

So, here’s what actually happened: Upon reaching the Seoul train terminal, we felt confident that we had plenty of time to relax before our next train at 2 PM. Feeling at ease, we decided to spend the extra hour at a nearby café, which was a haven of delights, filled with an array of breads, juices, and pizzas. As we were enjoying our treats, chaos ensued—first, someone knocked over their Coke on the table. Just two minutes later, another diner spilled a glass of water. To top it off, our little one decided it was the perfect time to splash water all over the table as well.

Sensing something was amiss, my wife asked me to double-check the train time. To our shock, we discovered that we had been looking at the wrong schedule, and the actual train was departing in just five minutes! Leaving everything behind, we sprinted back to the station, bags and child in tow. It was another close call, but we managed to board the train just in time.

I’m not usually one for superstition, but my wife often says that when water keeps spilling everywhere, it’s a sign of caution. Looking back, maybe she was right—luck was certainly on our side that day! With croissants and coffee in hand, we dashed out of the café, leaving behind a trail of spilled juice and abandoned drinks as we hurried with our bags and our little one.

After a frantic dash through the terminal—navigating lifts, corridors, and the maze of compartments—we made it onboard just in time. The train set off right on schedule, whisking us away from Seoul. Inside, we found a serene atmosphere, with passengers adhering to the quiet rules—no loud conversations or phone calls within the compartments. Calls were made near the doors, and vending machines dotted the train, offering everything from juices to coffee and even masks. When my attempt to purchase a mask using my Indian card failed, a kind train service attendant provided one free of charge.

As we sped along at a breathtaking 298 kmph, the sensation of movement was barely noticeable. The journey treated us to picturesque glimpses of villages passing by, adding to the enchantment of the experience. In just two hours and fifteen minutes, we found ourselves arriving in Busan, covering approximately 320 km in record time. Throughout the journey, locals seemed engrossed in their work, with many individuals seen diligently working on laptops. The train's facilities were impeccable, reminiscent of those found on flights, with restrooms maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness.
