Itinerary

Day 1 – City Landmarks & Strolls

  • Ascension Cathedral – A colorful wooden Orthodox church built without nails, set amidst Panfilov Park.
    Tip: Visit in the morning for fewer crowds and best photos. Entry free.

  • Panfilov Guardsmen Park – Dedicated to the 28 soldiers of WWII, with memorials and leafy walkways.
    Tip: Great spot for a relaxed stroll after the cathedral.

  • Arbat Street – Bustling pedestrian street lined with shops, cafés, and street artists.
    Food Stop: Try local Kazakh snacks and coffee at street cafés.

Day 2 – Mountains & Views

  • Shymbulak Mountain Resort – Scenic cable car ride from Medeu (25 mins).
    Things to Do: Open chair lift, hiking trails, skiing in winter.
    Entry: ~5000 KZT (cable car round trip).

  • Kok Tobe Hill – Reach by cable car, enjoy panoramic city views & Beatles monument.
    Food Stop: Kok Tobe Restaurant – Kazakh cuisine with views.

Day 3 – Nature & Culture

  • Almaty Zoo – Oldest zoo in Central Asia, home to 4,000+ animals. Entry ~700 KZT.

  • President’s Park – Landscaped gardens, fountains, and mountain backdrops. Entry free.

  • Central Mosque – One of Central Asia’s largest mosques with golden domes.
    Tip: Dress modestly; entry free.

Day 4 – Charyn & Kolsai Adventure

  • Charyn Canyon – Known as the “Grand Canyon of Central Asia.” 2–3 hr hike. Entry ~1000 KZT.

  • Charyn River – Shaded picnic spots along the flowing river.

  • Black Canyon – Rugged section with dark cliffs and dramatic views.

  • Kolsai Lake – Turquoise alpine lake surrounded by pine forests. ~3 hrs from Charyn.
    Travel Tip: Best done as a guided day trip. Start early (~7 AM). Carry snacks & water.

Day 5 – Local Flavours & Shopping

  • Green Bazar – Shop for spices, nuts, dry fruits & souvenirs.
    Tip: Bargain politely. Morning visits recommended.
    Food Stop: Try beshbarmak (Kazakhstan’s national dish) or lagman noodles at nearby local eateries.
